Work-Study Program

Work-Study: Join the MMAC Team And Receive Discounted Classes
MMAC’s Work-Study Program provides financial assistance to women and men who are pursuing careers in the performing arts. Students are offered classes at a discounted rate in exchange for eight to 10 hours of work per week with a commitment of at least eight weeks. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

The Open Class Program offers a wide variety of choices, including ballet, aerial, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, theater dance, belly dance, Pilates and more. In addition to savings on open classes, Work-Study students will receive discounts on Manhattan Youth Ballet performance tickets and at the Taste Café.

Job Descriptions

Receptionist
A good candidate must be a friendly, personable, well spoken, outgoing team player. This job requires a commitment of eight to 10 hours per week and includes the following tasks:

  • Answering 20-line phone system
  • Taking and distributing detailed messages
  • Taking open class attendance
  • Printing documents
  • Light filing

Café attendant
 This job requires a commitment of 8 to 10 hours per week.

  • A completed Work-Study Application 
  • A resume with cover letter

Acceptance + Placement
Upon a successful completion of all documents and an interview, each applicant will be contacted within one to two weeks. Each person who is granted a position must complete 10 hours of training. 

Work-Exchange Card
All Work-Study students will receive their first work-exchange cards upon completion of their 10 hours of training. Every two weeks, students will receive a new work-exchange card. This card must be presented to the front desk staff in order to receive the discounted rate. The card will be hole-punched each time a class is taken. This card is non-transferable  (allowing others to use this card will result in immediate dismissal) and will not be re-issued if lost or stolen.   

Discounts
Open Classes:

  •  1 hour of work  = 1 open class (Does not apply to aerial dance classes)

Manhattan Youth Ballet performance tickets: 50 percent discount
MMAC Café: 10 percent discount
