In a teaching career spanning more than 40 years, Mr. Howard's students have included many of ballet's most notable names, including dancers' with American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet. Gelsey Kirkland has said of him, "I am forever indebted to David Howard for his enlightened teaching" He imparts his love of dance by inviting you to take a journey with him. Born and educated in England, Mr. Howard trained at the Cone Ripman School, now the Arts Education School of London, and the Royal Academy of Dancing. He won the prestigious Adeline Genee Award at 16. Mr. Howard was a soloist with the Royal Ballet for 7 years before joining the National Ballet of Canada. He served as ballet master of the Harkness Ballet Company; directed his own ballet school adjacent to Lincoln Center, where his classes became the mainstay in the professional training of many elite dancers; and taught at the New School/Joffrey B.F.A. program (later known as the New School University/Eugene Lang College program.) He guest taught for Royal Ballet, ABT, Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and National Ballet of Canada. Mr. Howard served as president of the National Association of Regional Ballet in America and is well known for his work with international ballet competitions. He has been recognized with numerous awards and is prominent on the boards of many dance affiliated companies and dance publications. |
